This year, the 4th running of the  Annual CacheValley K9 Challenge was the best race we have ever had as far as the trail and participants!  The race was a 12 mile race for the 6 dog teams and the 24 mile race for 8 dog teams through the sinks and Wasatch-Cache National Forest.  The weather, trails and scenery of the Forest did prove to be challenging and fun. Friday we had a great cold day with groomed trails and by the end of the day sunny skies.  Saturday was also a perfect cold day for the dogs but what is famous for the sinks area, we had some wind.  Every participant enjoyed the scenery and said the trail was fabulous.

Opening up the race to 12 mile 6 dog and 24 mile 8 dog was the best decision and wish we would have been made sooner.  We still had a wonderful turn out. 12 mushers.  We had 9 teams for the 6 dog run and 3 teams for the 8 dog run.  The format pleased all involved and were eager to inquire about keeping the same type format for 2009.

PURSE:  The final purse for this race was perfect at $1052.00 adding up the donations from local businesses, donation from Dr. Drew and our cash we got from coffee donations and the raffle for the Proform Elliptical.  We also had many prizes from IFA, Camp Chef  and Teri Price.

Banquet:  at the Whittier Center each musher won a donated prize.

Special Guest Speaker:  at the banquet we had Dr. Kim Henneman talk to the mushers and took questions about the health of working dogs.  Dr. Henneman was a "virgin to sled dogs" before this weekend but I could tell she has fallen in love with the dogs, the sport and its crazy loveable people.  She spoke for a few minuets at the beginning of the banquet to give her opinions about what health effects running dogs could experience and her suggestions on helping some of the issues such as proper hydration, intestinal balance and supplements.

RACE LOCATION: The Sinks trailhead located on top of the beautiful Logan Cayon will be home once again to the K9 Challenge.  On Friday, 10:00 a.m. January 18th, the public is invited to the New Parking lot at the Sink's to view the mushers as they start the first day of the racing.  The public is invited once again to join us at the Sinks again at 10:00 a.m. Saturday for another exciting start on the second day of racing.   Saturday we will also be having a skijoiring demonstration given at 10:40 a.m. for all ages to view and learn how to start your own dog.

There is NO overnight staying  allowed at the race trail head.
